Kathryn was the second child and first daughter of Jacob Lory III and Angela Williams. Together with her siblings, Stephen, Anne, and Lory she grew up in a loving and adventurous life in Midland Texas
Throughout her life, Kathy felt a profound calling to serve the most vulnerable members of the Lubbock community. After earning her degree in Psychology from Texas Tech University, she began her career at the Texas State School and then dedicated several decades as a Case Manager with Texas MHMR, advocating tirelessly for the most vulnerable and unfortunate individuals in the South Plains. She achieved a Masters in Rehabilitative Services while serving the community with her tenure at Texas Department of Rehabilitation Services until retirement.
Even while retired, she was very active in the Lubbock and South Plains community and always looked for ways to help others and serve those in need. She became the Director for Volunteer Services Council for the Lubbock State School, an Ambassador for the Lubbock Pilot International Club, and a long contributor with the Lubbock Open Door and Grace Campus homeless shelters and member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
She was a proud and devoted mother of two children: Christopher (Lauren) and Michael Buckberry, who were the center of her love and life. She enjoyed sharing the country while camping in mountains with them and teaching the importance of a kind heart and strength of independence.
She was also a cherished grandmother to two beautiful granddaughters: Elizabeth (Michael and Melanie) and Ruth (Chris and Lauren). She enjoyed being an integral part of Elizabeth’s life and treasured the love and excitement both granddaughters gave her. Kathy also shared her love with her sister, Anne Busby who grew even closer in the past years.
Kathy touched the lives of everyone who knew her and the countless people she compassionately helped. She will be remembered forever for her warm, generous and altruistic spirit. We would like to give special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Covenant Medical Center and Crown Point Health.
