Kathryn Noel Ivey joined her husband of 74 years in Heaven on March 28, 2026. Alvie passed on March 25, 2026. They lived their entire marriage as a loving example of a Godly couple. They were happiest when together sharing the things they loved doing and fellowshipping with friends and family.
Kathryn was born on May 31,1933 on the Noel family farm southeast of Plainview to W.S. and Numa Booher Noel. She was the last girl born in a family of eight boys and three girls. She spent her early years on the farm gathering eggs., milking cows, learning to be a great cook and a talented seamstress. She enjoyed taking care of others.
She graduated from Plainview High School in May 1951. She married Alvie, August 17, 1951.They spent their early years farming in Pettit Tx. And then Plainview. After Alvie recovered from Polio and could no longer farm, they moved to Littlefield, Texas, and then Lubbock.
After their kids started school, she went to work at West Texas Hospital and then University Hospital. She enjoyed her job in the administrative side of medicine and worked for John David Jones, M.D. and then became office manager for F. Mac Ryburn III, M.D., where she remained for 38 years until the entire office retired in 2019.
She and Alvie spent 40 years traveling all over Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Arkansas to bluegrass festivals. They stayed in their RV and cultivated a wonderful group of lifelong friends. They said they had three families, the Iveys, the Noels and their bluegrass one. Kathryn loved hearing instruments and following him from jam session to jam session but also making sure Alvie rested after jamming past 1:30 in the morning!
She shared her cooking skills with all her neighbors, sometimes baking 9 pies and giving them to friends on all the holidays. Our fondest memories are shared at her table. She was always helping people during hard times. She practiced the golden rule every day.
Kathryn is survived by her children, Brenda (Randy) Shaffer of Lubbock, Bobby (Debbie) Ivey of Wolfforth, Steve (Cindy) Ivey of Lubbock: Grandchildren, Jason Moseley, Coty (Keitha) Ivey, Tony (Susan) Ivey of Amarillo, Amanda (John) Houston of Lubbock, Stephanie (Billy) Mills of Midland; great grandchildren, Clay Cooper, and Savannah Ivey and Skout Moseley and her great-great granddaughter Briar, all of Amarillo as well as her brothers Howard Noel of Virginia and Don Noel of Big Spring, Texas.
She was a great mother, a wonderful friend and ...as Alvie told her; “A great wife and a good woman.”
We loved them both and will miss them dearly.
