Larry Morgan Williamson of Lubbock, Texas passed away on December 9, 2014 at home after bravely battling ALS/Lou Gehrig’s disease for three years. He was an inspiration to so many people in how he lived his life and how he fought this disease with dignity and courage.
Larry was born July 22, 1956 in Spartanburg, South Carolina. His parents were Horace Hampton and Doris Stewart Williamson. Larry grew up on the East coast before his family moved to Lubbock. Some of his favorite childhood memories were from living in a cabin his father built as a family summer home in Highlands, North Carolina in the Smoky Mountains. He enjoyed exploring the surrounding land and forests. He also enjoyed spending time at his grandparents’ home in Blue Ridge, Georgia.
Larry graduated from Monterey and attended Texas Tech University and later South Plains College. Larry married Sharon in 1995 in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. They had two children Davis and Taylor.
Larry worked in the construction and graphic design industry for many years before becoming a Radiology Technician at UMC. He loved working at UMC and made many long lasting friendships and was such a great employee and mentor to everyone that he worked with. He was very proud of his “employee of the year” awards that he received.
Larry loved so many things about life which included being a great husband, father, brother and neighbor, family camping trips to Camp Post and Palo Duro Canyon, attending many kid soccer and football games, family vacation trips to Florida, boating on the lake with family and friends, building a pig roaster for UMC buddies, eating a great steak, going to New Mexico, working on science projects with the kids, helping build cars for the annual cub scout pinewood derby, working with ceramics and most importantly enjoyed working with wood and his power tools. He was so proud of his children and what they have accomplished so far in their lives. We will miss him so much and are thankful for all that he did for his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and nephew Kim Williamson. He is survived by his wife Sharon Stotts Williamson and their two sons Davis Hampton and Taylor Morgan, two brothers Tom Stewart Williamson of Austin, Texas and John Douglas Williamson of Moyock, North Carolina and wife Tracey. He also has a niece, Gabrielle Mae and nephew Benjamin of Moyock, North Carolina, and nephews JC, Mark and Michael of North Texas.
Memorial services will be held at the Abbey Chapel at Resthaven on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at 1 pm. Visitation with family will be held on Friday, December 12, 2014 at 5pm to 7pm at Resthaven. We would like to thank the staff with Interim Home Health and Hospice of the South Plains for all of their help and support they provided to Larry and our family during his illness.
