Larry was born in New York City to Harry and Leann Walker. When he was 6 months old the family moved to Los Angeles, Ca. where he grew up. His fun times were when he spent the summers with his Aunt Ruth and Uncle Walter Pidgeon (the movie star). He graduated from Hollywood High at the age of seventeen and went into the Navy in 1947 where he served as Medic on Ship for 10 years which was during the Korean War. Then after 10 years he decided to go into the Air Force which he spent 20 years doing the same as when he was in the Navy and that was during the Viet Nam War.
Larry traveled around the world spending time in many countries; retired from the military as a Master Sergeant in 1977. He received many medals for his service. He then worked in Civil Service for 19 more years doing the same as he did in active duty. He retired from Reese AFB in 1993.
Larry and Dianna traveled many places in their RV and enjoyed each trip. Larry is a Life Member of Elks 1348 and VFW Post 2466 along with being a Mason, Shriner and Scottish Rite and Eastern Star. Larry went on the South Plains Honor Flight in 2014 as a Korean Veteran. He then joined the committee of Honor Flight and spent many hours volunteering.
He also is one of the veterans in the book Texas South Plains War Stories written by Larry Williams and Katherine McLamore. It tells all about his military career and all that he accomplished. Larry was a volunteer at Covenant Lakeside for many years and spent the last 5 years volunteering at the VA here in Lubbock which he enjoyed so very much. Larry looked forward to his Mondays to meet with the old geezers at Market Street to spin tall tales.
Larry is survived by his wife Dianna; daughters, Cindy Martinez and Pam Stokes of Del Rio, TX; son, Lew Walker (Victoria) of Jacksonville, FL; step-sons, Jerry Brewer (Tanya) of Rockwall, TX and Bill Brewer of Overland, KS; step-daughter, Barbara Brewer of West Palm Beach, FL; 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; aunt and uncle, Ruth and Walter Pidgeon; mother of his children, Jean Fletcher; in-laws, Walter and Dorothy Dove and a grandchild, Jesse Brewer.
Larry loved his family both by birth and blended which he accepted in 1981. He treated each of his family the same and was very proud of all of them; always there for each of them no matter what the situation was.
Larry will be missed by everyone that knew him and especially by Dianna and their puppy, Barbie.
Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 25, 2021 at Resthaven’s Abbey Chapel.
