Funeral services for Lester James “L.J.” Sims, Jr. 88, of Smyer will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at 2:00p.m. at the Smyer First Baptist Church. A visitation will be held today, Friday August 9, from 7:00p.m. – 9:00p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home.
L.J. was born in Lubbock on October 21, 1924 to Lester James Sims, Sr. and Thelma Sims. He graduated from Frenship High School in 1942 and Texas Tech College in 1951. He served in the Army Air Corp from 1942 – 1946 and also in the Reserves from 1949 – 1953. After college, he worked in Lubbock before becoming self-employed as Sims Pump Service.L.J. was devoted to his family, church and community serving in many capacities.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Holly D. Sims. He is survived by his siblings, L.H. Sims, Jack Sims, Gwen Dow, Mary Beth Sims, Jane Drake and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
