

Lila Aven Jones, 92, of Lubbock, passed away January 23, 2015. Lila (Buddie) Jones was born in Halfway, Texas on December 1, 1922. Lila graduated from Hart High School and attended West Texas State Teachers College in Canyon, Texas for a year before attending Draughn’s Busi-ness College in Lubbock and earning an Associate Degree.
She married James Bacon Jones October 6, 1942, in Victoria, Texas where Bacon received his Army Air Force Wings at Foster Field. Lila taught school at Hart High School when Bacon was in Africa during WWII. She and Bacon moved to Bonham, Texas after the war before moving to Littlefield, Texas in 1949. She became a legal secretary for Arthur P. Duggan in Littlefield, Texas. She and Bacon moved the family to Lubbock in 1959 where she worked for Anderson Bros. Jewelry before becoming sec-retary to Floyd Honey, princi-pal of Monterey High School, and continued to work for him at LISD Central Office.
She retired in 1971 to travel extensively with Bacon in their motor coach. She had a passion for Texas Tech men’s and women’s basketball and a Texas Tech baseball cap was always her favorite hat.
She loved their second home on the Arkansas River in Colorado where she and Bacon spent every summer as long as they could, and she passionately loved their grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband James Bacon Jones, son James Aven (Spike) Jones and daughters, Susan Jones Millsap and Dana Jones Roberts, her grandchildren: Tiffany Roberts, Dax Jones, Danette Bradford, Doug Roberts, Trigg Bowlin, Deane LaRue, and Alexis Pate, and 10 great grandchildren. She is survived by two sisters, Lillian Carson and Maurice Carson. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2015 in the Abbey Chapel of Resthaven Funeral Home.
