Linda Kay Brown

She was born on May 3rd, 1936, in Kansas City, MO and raised by WD and Thelma Meltzer in Ft. Smith, AR. Linda went on to graduate from Ft. Smith High School in 1954 and later attended the University of Tennessee Dental School where she graduated as a Dental Hygienist in March of 1957. It was there, at the University of Tennessee, that she met the love of her life, Carl F. Brown and they were married in Ft. Smith, AR on September 29th, 1957.

She and Carl moved to San Francisco, CA, where she practiced dental hygiene at Ft. Baker, CA, until her first son, Carl D., was born in November of 1958. After welcoming their first child, Linda and Carl moved to Lubbock, TX, in October of 1959 where Carl F. opened his dental practice. In March of 1963 the couple welcomed their second son, Derrick.

After moving to Lubbock, Linda and Carl became devoted members at St. Luke’s Methodist Church. Linda had a passion to serve her community and volunteered and served on civic boards – she served as the president of JC Wives, as well as serving with the South Plains Dental Auxiliary, and Methodist / Covenant Hospital Auxiliary where she volunteered for over 40 years in the surgical waiting room. She was involved with the Junior League of Lubbock, PEO / Chapter AK, Seekers Sunday School class at St. Luke’s, Lighthouse for the Blind, and the Reese Air Force Base Host Family Program via the women’s division of the Chamber of Commerce. Linda was also a member of numerous dance clubs, dinner clubs, and bridge clubs for over 50 years.

In her spare time, Linda enjoyed reading a good book, playing solitaire, solving crossword puzzles, and piecing together jigsaw puzzles. Linda also loved spending time at the family cabin in Angel Fire, NM – here she was able to enjoy the outdoors and could be found snow skiing or hiking. Through all of her civic involvement and recreational pastimes – Linda’s greatest passion and source of joy was her family. Linda loved being able to spend time with those she loved, showing her love and affection through delicious home-cooked meals for friends and family alike.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, WD and Thelma Meltzer; her brother, Don Parker; and her beloved husband Carl F. Brown.

Those left to carry on Linda’s legacy include her sons, Carl D. of Angel Fire, NM, and Derrick Brown and his wife Dawn, of Lubbock, TX; her grandchildren, Chase, Bailee, Gloria, Lacey, and Dillon; as well as her great granddaughter, Ellie Kay.

A Private service for family members will be held on August 31st, 2026 at Resthaven Funeral Home.
