Louis was born on May 3rd, 1969, to Ofelia and Aurelio Martinez, in Altus, Oklahoma. He attended Altus High School, where he excelled in athletics – specifically wrestling – he was proud to have been the wrestling state champion. Lou eventually made his way to Lubbock, Texas where he graduated from Lubbock High School with the class of 1988.
Big Lou was a jack of all trades and loved to work with his hands. He had a special talent for painting and worked as a painter for 28 years with McCoy remodeling – leaving a lasting mark with his handiwork. He was also known as the “Mesquite Man” and supplied wood to many.
When Louis wasn’t working, he enjoyed lighting up his barbeque and making meals to feed his friends and family, they will especially miss “Big Lou’s Famous Ribs”. Louis also enjoyed the outdoors and would often visit Buffalo Springs Lake to fish. But what brought him the most joy in life was his family – being able to spend time with his kids, grandkids (wherever you found Louie – you would find La Chiquis), and his dogs meant the world to him. In 2014 he created the car club, Naturally Stranded, for his family – which was another way they could enjoy their time together.
Louis was preceded in death by his parents, Ofelia and Aurelio Martinez Sr., his brother, Aurelio Martinez Jr., and his beloved dog, Money $.
Big Lou is lovingly survived by todas las hynas del North Side; his children, Lonnie (Maryjane) Martinez, Jared (Hope) Martinez, and Maricela (Besnik) Lusha. His legacy also lives on through his 17 grandkids, 4 nieces, and 4 nephews; as well as his sister, Mary Jane Martinez and Rafa Palo, and his brother, Adam Martinez Sr.
