Lynn (Wharton) Gottula, 70, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 14, 2021. She was born March 1, 1951, in Lubbock, Texas, to Joe and Dorothy Wharton. She graduated from Monterey High School in 1969 and from Texas Tech University in 1973, majoring in home economics with an emphasis in textiles. She survived Lubbock's 1970 tornado downtown in the Lindsey Theater. She married Alan Gottula, of Elk Creek, Neb., at First Christian Church of Lubbock in 1982 and lived eight years on a Nebraska farm. She then returned to Lubbock, where she worked at several Lubbock law firms until her retirement in 2016. Lynn enjoyed gardening, and she raised a breeding population of box turtles in her backyard. She volunteered at a local elementary school, teaching after-school sewing courses. Her hand-sewn textiles, including quilts, toys and COVID-19 facemasks, brought joy to her family. Her craft entries won many ribbons at the Panhandle South Plains Fair, where she also volunteered. She is survived by her son, John Gottula, daughter-in-law, Kelly (Voll) Gottula, and granddaughter, Chloe Gottula, of Fuquay-Varina, NC; her twin brother, Larry Wharton, and sister-in-law, Connie (Webb) Wharton, of Lubbock; and her nieces, Whitney Wharton, of Atlanta, Ga., and Caroline (Wharton) Prescott, of Tomball, Texas. A memorial service will be planned at a later date to limit the spread of COVID-19. Condolences can be made to the family at www.dignitymemorial.com.
