Services for Margaret Sanders Bryant will be held at Agape Global Methodist Church on November 5, 2024 at 10:30 in the morning with Pastor Lawrence Springer officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
Margaret was born in Lubbock, TX on December 8, 1932 to L.J. “Pete” and Frances Sanders. She graduated from Muleshoe High School in 1950 and attended Texas Tech and Draughon’s Business College. She married her high school sweetheart, R.E. Bryant on January 26, 1952. They were married 54 years when he died in 2006. On October 29, she passed away peacefully at home with her family at her side, never losing her sweet smile.
Margaret worked alongside R.E. in the seed industry before they retired, but their greatest adventure came when they bought a section of land east of Acuff and ran cattle for many years. Margaret loved everything about the ranching life, with the exception of the snakes, and she was always right in the middle of the action. She was tough as nails and could throw a bale of hay or load bags of feed like she was one of the men. As R.E.’s health declined they made the hard decision to sell their little slice of heaven.
When they sold the ranch, she turned her energy toward volunteering in the community. She became a founding member of the Board of Directors of the Lubbock Interfaith Hospitality Network for Homeless Families, serving as Treasurer and Chair of the Finance Committee, and was awarded the Girl Scouts of Caprock Council’s Women of Distinction Award in 2001. For the past 15 years she was involved with the Parkinson’s Association of Lubbock, an organization very near and dear to her heart, and had served as their treasurer for the past 13 years. In addition to her community outreach, she had been an active member of Agape Methodist Church since 1963, where she had served as church secretary and church treasurer, and president of United Methodist Women.
She was devoted to her family and was the best Baba to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law Susan and Bill Lehne, Jana and Brett Peikert of Lubbock, her grandchildren Ashley and Brandon Bepko of Port Aransas, Allison Rutherford, Timothy Peikert and Mikala Pena, Emily and David Hoefs, all of Lubbock, great grandchildren Austin and Brady Bepko, Liam and River Rutherford, Baby Hoefs on the way, sister-in-law Carolyn Sanders of Portales, NM, and beloved nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the West Texas Parkinson’s Society or Agape Global Methodist Church in her honor.
