Margie Davis

Margie Driskill Davis, 89, joined her Heavenly Father at 9:45 p.m., on November 10, 2018, in Glen Rose, Texas.Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life of 89 years tomorrow, November 13, 2018, at 10:00 am at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers.Margie, one of nine children, was born on December 2, 1928, to John and Ruby Driskill, in Avoca, Texas. Following her graduation from Avoca High School in 1946, Margie met the love of her life, Doyle (T.D.) Davis.  They married on July 19, 1947 in Anson, Texas, and eventually moved to Goodland, Texas, where they farmed and raised cattle.  They moved from the family farm to Lubbock in the 1980s.Margie was known as “Nanny” not only by her 8 grandchildren but also by their many friends, and later by her great grand children.   Margie had a love for children of all ages and was known to have the ability to calm and rock any crying baby to sleep.  Following the loss of her husband, Margie loved and cared for Paige Womble, and Caroline and Whitney Wharton,She was a devoted follower of Christ and served Him in many capacities of the church. She was a youth Sunday school teacher, a Girls Auxiliary Leader, and church treasurer for many years.  In addition, she was a member of the Goodland Bible Study and Bible Study Fellowship.  She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church while living in Lubbock.  She exemplified a true servant’s heart and led by example, always placing the needs of others above her own.Referred to as a “stay at home wife and mother,” the more appropriate title was a “work from home wife and mother.” She assisted Doyle on the farm, prepared meals for the family and farm workers, carried meals to the field on many occasions, took care of farming records and ran any errands that were deemed necessary.Margie was also an accomplished seamstress. She made clothes for her family and saw to it that any young girl in the community had new clothing for any special occasion when the need arose.  In addition, she was a master gardener, as well as an excellent cook and baker.  There was always an open invitation for friends, family, and acquaintances to fellowship around the Davis table for a home cooked meal, a glass of iced tea, or coffee, with dessert, of course.  Her love for family was demonstrated through her many acts of provision and care for each of them.  Many of her nieces and nephews have fond memories of summers on the farm with “Uncle Doyle and Aunt Margie.”Margie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Doyle Davis, parents John and Ruby Driskill, her three brothers, Jake Wayne and Paul Driskill, and three sisters: Lucille Easterling, Jewell Harris, and Opal Rowland.Margie, “Nanny” is survived by 3 children: Doyleen and Tommy Terrell of Albany, Texas; Allan and Rosely Davis of Lacey Washington; and Tammy and Mike Reeves of Granbury, Texas.  She is greatly loved and is survived by her grandchildren:  Shelli and Brad Stegall, Scott and Shannon Terrell, Shane and Heather Terrell, T.J. Davis, Autumn Whittet, Michael and Elizabeth Reeves, Aspen Slayton and Blaze Moorhead.  Great grandchildren are Cassi and Justin Gartman, Colton and Kylee Stegall, Jake Terrell, Jordan Terrell, Josh Terrell, Rylan Terrell,  Avery Terrell,  Auburn Whittet, Teddi Slayton, Rush Whittet, and Leon Reeves.  Her sister, Elsie Dansbee, as well as Martha Toliver, Jane and C.W. Whittemore, Sue and Vonay Davis, and many loving nieces and nephews also survive Margie.The family is deeply grateful for the caregivers of Renaissance Park and Rehabilitation Center, The Courtyards of Lake Granbury, and the loving kindness and compassion shown by Dr. Lopez, and the nurses and staff at Glen Rose Nursing Home.
