Marjorie Nell Pate was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She departed from this world on December 23, 2023 at the age of 94 to be with the Lord and loved ones that passed away before her.
Marjorie was born to Nuge and Emma Johnson in Afton, Texas on September 9, 1929. She lived on their family farm in Afton until the age of nine. Marjorie had five siblings. All proceeded her in death.
Marjorie, her mother, sister, and brother moved to Lubbock in 1938 after the passing of her father. She graduated from Lubbock High School in 1945. Marjorie married Stephen D. Pate, Jr. on June 12, 1946.
Stephen was a cotton farmer and Marjorie devoted herself to raising their two daughters. Her beloved husband of 60 years passed away in December 2006. The next year she sold the home they built and lived in for 46 years. She moved to Denton, Texas to be near her two daughters and three grandchildren.
Marjorie was an energetic person who was constantly helping her family, friends, and neighbors. If you needed something taken care of, Marjorie was the person to call. She was an amazing cook and baker. She was a member of the first United Methodist Church. Marjorie was blessed with a green thumb and a love of working outside in her yard and garden. She grew the most amazing tomatoes. Marjorie was a member of the Alpha Phi Mothers Club and enjoyed helping the sorority prepare for rush. She considered that rewarding and great fun. Marjorie loved playing bridge at the Lubbock Bridge Center and she cherished the relationships she developed while playing bridge. Her family will remember her for her unwavering support, wisdom, and brutal honesty.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter Pam Arthur and her husband, David of Denton and her daughter Kristi Stratton of Garland; her three grandchildren Kyle Arthur, Ashley Stauffer and her husband Chase, and Justin Stratton; and great-grandchildren Jaxon Stratton and Cadence Stauffer.
The family wants to express our deepest gratitude to Loretta Lorne and Heaven At Home for the love, compassion, and caregiving provided to Marjorie in her final year on this earth.
In remembrance of Marjorie’s life, the family asked that in lieu of floral arrangements memorial tributes be made to The Salvation Army, Meals on Wheels or any animal rescue organization.
Services will be in the chapel at Resthaven Funeral Home & Memorial Park in Lubbock on January 12th at 2:00 P.M.
