Born December 14, 1926, in Williamson County, Texas to Ernst Gerhard Menzel and Hulda Menzel, Marvin was the sixth of eight Menzel siblings.
In 1944 during WWII, Marvin joined the Army at the age of 18. He was stationed at Fort Hood, Fort Ord (California), and Galveston during his duty. In 1946, after being honorably discharged, Marvin returned home to Thorndale, Texas and started farming. This was the beginning of a long, successful career as a farmer.
He moved to the South Plains area in 1958, farmed in the Wilson area for a few years in the 60s, but has farmed Shallowater and called it home for most of his life. Marvin has for many years served on the board of Citizens-Shallowater Co-op Gin and has been active in its leadership until his last days.
In 1959 Marvin joined Redeemer Lutheran Church in Lubbock, where he served in several different teaching and leadership capacities, including Chairman of the Elders. In 1975, he married Lucille Briley from Wingate, Texas. Marvin and Lucille recently celebrated their 42nd anniversary on February 22nd , 2017.
Marvin was a kind, quiet, generous, wise, and caring man, respected by all. He was a devoted and godly husband, father, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be missed tremendously by his family and those who were blessed to know him.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Ernst and Hulda, brothers Gilbert, Cecil, Ervin, and Clarence, and sister Gertrude Weise.
Marvin is survived by his loving wife Lucille; brother Melvin (Shirley); sister Mabel Walther (Wilbert); nephew Frank Menzel (Mary) and their children, Clay (Nicki) and Leslie Hubbard (Aaron); stepson Bill Briley (Pam); grandsons Doug (Rebecca), and Chris (Kelli); and great-grandchildren, Russell, Elizabeth, Lanham, Cole, Eva, and Asher.
