Mary Alice Austin, age 86, of Olton, Texas passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2023 in Plainview. She was born November 17, 1936 in Norman, Arkansas to William and Susie Carson. Mary married Billy Gene Austin, July 14, 1952 in Hope Arkansas. Billy worked in construction so their young family moved following his job, across Texas and New Mexico. They settled in Olton, Texas where the children started school, the family became members of First Assembly of God Church and Mary was employed by the Olton Independent School District as a bus driver and in the school cafeteria so her schedule allowed her to be home with her children. She loved to sew, quilt and read, and spent many hour searching for just the right pattern and material to make clothing or quilts for the kids and grandkids. She also passed her love of reading to her children and grandchildren supplying any book they requested. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Those welcoming Mary home were her husband, Billy Gene Austin; granddaughter Kelcey Elkins and her parents, William and Susie, five sisters; Daisy Morgan, Irene Lewis, Florene Webb, Mae Jarrett, and June Brooks, and five brothers; brothers Buddy, Carl ,Kit, Curt and Billy Carson.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children Alice Fields and husband, Sammy, Randy Austin and wife, Sue, Keith Austin and wife, Darla and Sheri Elkins and husband, Chris, a brother, James Carson and a sister Joyce Finney, grandchildren; Julie Garcia and husband Anthony, Alicia Austin, Mirandi Edwards and husband Allan, Kyle Austin, Chad Austin and wife Christy, Heather Elkins-Arce and husband Joel, Kaitlin Verdine and husband,.Colton and Jacob Duncan and wife Baily and great grandchildren Austin and Serafina Garcia, Brandon and Jasmine Austin, Ty Edwards, Asher and Marcus Austin, Rhowen Flippin and Rebekah Arce and numerous nieces and nephews.
An graveside services for Mary will be held Saturday, August 5, 2023 at 10:00 AM at the Fairview Cemetery, in Clarksville, Texas with Rev Mark Posey officiating.
