Mary Lee Duke Johnson, born on April 11, 1935, gracefully departed this world on September 16, 2023, in Lubbock, Texas surrounded by her loving family. She was a loving mother, devoted wife, cherished grandmother, and a beloved friend to many.
Mary is survived by her son Bobby Johnson and wife Ramona, her daughter Janet and husband David McCalla, her grandsons Eric Johnson and wife Erin, Stephen Johnson and wife Samantha, Jeremy McCalla and wife Halston, and Clint McCalla and wife Sarah. She also leaves behind seven precious great-grandchildren - Emma, Ethan, Aurora, Lauren, Nolan, Eunan, and Annemarie.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, Doug Johnson, her parents, William Hasting Duke and Grace Dell Simpson Duke, three sisters Kathleen and husband Wheeler Carwile, Lucille Haynes, Cordie and husband Monroe Jeffcoat, four brothers John Duke and wife Gladys, Harold Duke, Roy Duke and wife Janeece, and Dewey Duke.
Mary's life was a testament to love and selflessness. She found joy in simple pleasures, from her passion for sewing and quilting to tending her beautiful yard and garden. Her kitchen was a hub of warmth and wonderful aromas, where she shared her culinary talents with family and friends. Her hospitality was unmatched, and her gatherings were filled with laughter and love.
Mary was the pillar of her family and a founding member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Lubbock. Her faith and dedication in serving others touched the lives of many. Mary's memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
A celebration of Mary's life will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, Lubbock, Texas on Friday, September 22nd. Visitation will begin at 10 AM, Chapel Service at 11 AM, and Graveside Service at 12 Noon. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association. The family wishes to thank the staff of Raider Ranch for providing loving and compassionate care to Mary over the last few years.
Mary's light will continue to shine through the lives she touched, and her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. May she rest in eternal peace.
