Mary Karen Kerr

Kay was born on May 23, 1940, in Borger, Texas, to Mary and Charles Knapp. She was raised in Houston, Texas

Kay attended Pershing before attending Bellaire High School in Houston, where she was a cheerleader. She continued her education at Texas Tech University and then attended the University of Texas Dental School in Houston.

During this time, Kay married her high school sweetheart, Wayne Leigh Kerr, on August 27, 1960. They were married until 1973.

She began her professional career as a dental hygienist in 1963. She later went to work at the family business, Polly Pig by Knapp in Houston, where she worked until her retirement in 2012. Kay was a leading salesperson in the waterworks industry and took great pride in her work and accomplishments throughout her career.

To her many friends, she was affectionately known simply as “Kay.” She had a gift for deep friendship and was blessed with many dear friends throughout her life.

Kay was raised in the Episcopal Church, and her faith remained a strong and meaningful part of her life. Her faith carried her through the many seasons of life and was reflected in the love, strength, and kindness she shared with others.

In 2021, Kay moved to Lubbock to be closer to her family. There, she was surrounded by the people she loved most and was able to continue spending precious time making memories with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Kay’s greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who treasured the time she spent with those she loved. Her family will forever carry the memories, traditions, lessons, laughter, and love she gave so freely throughout her life.

She is survived by her three precious daughters, Karen Granato, Susan Williams, and Sharon Lockett (Teddy Willis), her brother Charles Knapp (Betty Knapp), sister-in-law Mary Virginia Knapp and all her nieces.

Kay was a cherished Nanaw to her seven grandchildren, Brittney Williams (Austin Williams), Brock Williams (Taylor Williams), Bailey Church (Scotland Church), Brenna Frazier (Mason Frazier), Tatum Edmister (Ryder Edmister), Piper Granato, and Hannah Lockett.

She was also a proud great-grandmother to her eight great-grandchildren: Wyatt Williams, Charlotte Church, Beau Church, Gunner Williams, Caroline Williams, Blair Frazier, Scottie Church, and Kollyn Frazier.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Charles Knapp; her brother, Kenneth Knapp; and her dear sons-in-law, Tregg Granato and Eric Williams.

Though she will be deeply missed, her family is grateful for the many years they were blessed to have her and will forever cherish the love, guidance, laughter, and joy she brought into their lives.
