Mary Author Savage

Mary Savage, 95, of Lubbock passed away on Thursday, November 26, 2020 in Lubbock. She was born at home near Wilson, Texas in Lynn County to Thomas Franklin Moore and Ella Deason Moore. She was the last surviving child of eighteen children. They were a strong and faithful generation.

After growing up in the West Texas area, she moved to California to work as a telephone operator during WWII. She returned to Texas and met William “Bill” Savage. They were married in 1948 and she was a farm wife until his accidental death in 1964. She then returned to school at South Plans College and Angelo State University and obtained her degree in education. She taught at Casey Elementary School in Wolfforth and she was very proud of those she always called “my kids”.

She was a member of the teachers’ sorority Kappa Kappa Iota. She was active for many years in Sojourners where she traveled extensively to serve many churches. God, Family, Church, Cotton Farming and Travel were her focus through life. She was a faithful member at Greenlawn Church of Christ.

The greatest legacy she and her husband, Bill left was a close and faithful family. She is survived by her son, Ray Savage and wife Polly of Seminole; her daughters, Jackie Maples and husband Ted of Grape Creek, TX and Rita Cary and husband Rick of Lubbock, TX; grandchildren: Bill and Ena Savage of Hobbs, N.M., Meghann and Jeff Sammons of College Station, TX, Tamara and Joseph Chitwood of Panhandle, TX, and Kim and P.C. Baldillez of Water Valley, TX; she was also very proud of her great-grands: Ty, Sadie and Jett Savage, Ryan and Caleb Sammons, and Tanner and Grant Chitwood.

Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 11, 2020 at Green Lawn Church of Christ.
