Matias Huerta

Matias Santiago Huerta was born on December 1, 1978, in Plainview, Texas, to his loving mother Irene Lopez. On July 20, 2026, Matias passed away, leaving behind a legacy of strength, laughter, service, and unconditional love that will continue to live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

From an early age, Matias had a personality that could never be ignored. He was fearless, full of energy, and carried a smile that could brighten even the darkest day. He had an incredible sense of humor and a gift for making people laugh. Whether he was telling stories, cracking jokes, or simply enjoying the company of those around him, he was the kind of person who naturally became the center of every gathering. His booming laugh, larger-than-life presence, and outgoing spirit made him unforgettable. To know Matias was to know someone who embraced life wholeheartedly and encouraged others to do the same.

Matias was a man of courage, honor, and unwavering determination who dedicated much of his life to serving others. He proudly served four years in the United States Marine Corps, where he learned the discipline, resilience, and selflessness that would guide him throughout his life. After his military service, he continued answering the call to serve as a police officer. He approached his work with integrity, courage, and compassion, always striving to protect those around him.

Following his years in public service, Matias built a respected career as a heavy machine operator in the oil and gas industry. He was known for his strong work ethic, dependability, and willingness to take on any challenge. He worked tirelessly to provide for his family, taking great pride in everything he did and earning the admiration and respect of those who worked beside him.

Above all else, Matias was a devoted father. His children were the greatest joy of his life, and he loved them with all his heart. He taught them through his actions what it meant to be strong, hardworking, loyal, and resilient. His love, guidance, humor, and unforgettable spirit will continue to live on through them.

Matias was preceded in death by his mother Irene and he is survived by his beloved children, Xzadrian, Shyann, Cierra, and Kaleb; his loving parents, Carmen Minjarez, Manuel Minjarez II and his grandchildren along with many extended family members, lifelong friends, fellow Marines, coworkers, and all whose lives were enriched by knowing him.

Matias will always be remembered for his contagious laughter, booming voice, generous heart, and the way he could make everyone around him feel welcome. He was the life of every gathering, the friend you could always count on, and the man who never hesitated to lend a helping hand. His courage, strength, and love for life touched countless people, and his memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Though his passing leaves an immeasurable void, his legacy lives on through his children, his family, and the many lives he impacted. Every shared laugh, every story told, and every cherished memory stands as a reminder of the remarkable man he was. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at Lake Ridge Chapel, 6025 82nd Street, Lubbock, Texas.

A Celebration of Life will follow, where family and friends will gather to honor and celebrate Matias's life at The Dream Center in Lubbock. Following the celebration, a graveside service will be held at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park, where Matias will be laid to rest with dignity and honor.
