Melissa Jeanne (Martin) Cameron, 67, of Lubbock, Texas, entered into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 28, 2026. Though our hearts are broken by her passing, we rejoice in the promise of eternal life and find comfort knowing she is at peace in the presence of Christ.
Melissa, lovingly known as Lissie, was born on August 28, 1958, in Lubbock, Texas, to Joe Frank and Jeanne Martin. She was raised in a lively family of thirteen children, where faith, hard work, and love for one another were the foundation of everyday life. Growing up in the family's beloved "Big House," she learned the value of serving others by helping prepare meals, caring for her younger siblings, and sharing responsibilities that shaped the selfless, hardworking woman she became. She graduated from Shallowater High School in 1976 and later attended Texas Tech University. On August 8, 2006, Melissa married Doug Cameron. They built a life centered on family, and their beloved son, Gage.
Melissa dedicated her career to serving others. She worked alongside Judge Blaylock for 19 years before beginning a successful career in agricultural insurance in 1995. In 2012, she fulfilled a lifelong dream by opening Open Range Insurance, where she continued working until the very end.
Melissa was, without question, one of the hardest-working people anyone could know. She gave selflessly of her time and energy, often placing the needs of others before her own. Of all the roles she held, none brought Melissa greater joy than being the heart of her family. She loved her family fiercely and without reservation, they were the center of her world. She was their greatest encourager, loudest cheerleader, fiercest protector, and safest place to land. Her greatest joy was loving her children and grandchildren, especially her beloved son, Gage, who held an extraordinarily special place in her heart. The bond they shared was one of pure joy and unconditional love.
Melissa stood firmly for what she believed, defended those she loved without hesitation, and never backed down when protecting her family. She was resilient, courageous, and fiercely loyal. She celebrated every birthday, graduation, holiday, and milestone, believing life's moments were meant to be shared with the people you love. She was a constant, comforting presence in the stands, always cheering loudest for the people she loved.
Melissa is survived by her husband, Doug Cameron; her daughter, Juli Rhoads and husband, Donald of Ropesville; her sons, Matt Price of Lubbock, Mark Price and wife, Mackenzie, of Idalou, and Gage Price of Idalou; her stepsons, Kory Cameron and wife, Ashleigh, of Fort Worth and Chance Cameron of Lubbock; and her cherished grandchildren: Kati, Ransom, Karli, Ansley, Lane, Haisley, Payten, Hudson, Cesar, Liliana, Skylar, Madison, and Matthew.
She is also survived by her brothers and sisters: Joe Michael and Patty Martin of Shortsville, NY; Mark and Isabel Martin of Edgewood, NM; Joe Frank and Angie Martin of Lubbock; Patti and Ronnie Hensley of New Deal; LouAnn Martin of Canyon; Juli and Dave Tillery of Lubbock; Farrell and Deana Martin of Lubbock; Freeman and Shannon Martin of Liberty Hill; Heather and Lan Winn of Lubbock; Bridget Martin of Edgewood, NM; Holly and Rex Whitfield of Lubbock; and Hedge and Amy Martin of New Deal, along with many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Frank and Jeanne Martin; her stepson, Ty Cameron; and her nephew, Leit Martin.
Melissa's greatest legacy was the love she poured into her family. She taught by example that work should be done with excellence, and that family always comes first. We will forever cherish her sacrifice, remarkable strength, her elaborate meals, unwavering protection, and the unconditional love she poured into each of us every day.
"She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come." — Proverbs 31:25
