He is survived by his cherished wife, Tricia Wade Doss, children, Emily (Kyle) Shugar, Eric (Grace) Davis, and Jason Spradlen; his cherished grandchildren, Max and Luke Shugar, Theo, Julian, Zeke, and Noland Davis, and Quinn Spradlin; and his sister, Kay Polvado and nieces Debbie and Susan.
Known affectionately throughout his life as Michael, Mike, and Bub, he possessed a remarkable spirit of adventure and curiosity. From an early age, he developed a passion for aviation and earned his pilot's license while still young. He was also an accomplished certified scuba diving instructor whose patience and good humor often led him to teach students how to swim before teaching them how to scuba dive.
Michael's commitment to service began in his youth as an Eagle Scout and continued through his years as a Scout Master, where he helped guide and inspire young men to develop confidence, character, and leadership.
Michael attended Texas Tech University, where he majored in Mathematics and Chemistry. He carried his analytical mind and strong work ethic into a distinguished career in business. He was the fourth generation to operate his family's grocery store in Morton, Texas, continuing a proud family legacy. He later served as President of Affiliated Foods and went on to enjoy a successful 30-year sales career with Zep Chemical Company before retiring.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Michael found great joy in ranching. He owned and operated a working cattle ranch in New Mexico, where he embraced the challenges and rewards of ranch life.
Above all, Michael treasured his family. He delighted in sharing stories, adventures, and life lessons with his children and grandchildren. His wisdom, humor, determination, and generous heart left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Michael’s legacy lives on in the family he loved, the lives he touched, and the example he set of living boldly, working hard, and embracing every adventure that came his way. His love of teaching endured through his final act of generosity: becoming a donor to the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Institute of Anatomical Sciences. This donation is a meaningful contribution to the advancement of education, medical training, and future healing.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Truman and Helen Doss, and his late wife Patti Doss. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
