

Michael was born on January 9, 1969, in Lubbock, Texas, to Charlie and Janie Reeves. Michael graduated from Coronado High School in 1987. He continued his education at Texas Tech University, where he was the baseball manager and a member of the Farmhouse Fraternity. Michael graduated with a Bachelor’s of Arts and Sciences in Journalism with a minor in History in 1991.
Michael met the love of his life, Christy, while they were in high school, and eventually began dating after playing tennis the summer before starting college. The pair married on September 21, 1991 at First United Methodist Church. Michael and Christy celebrated 35 years of marriage just a few days before his passing.
After working at the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce for nearly 10 years, Michael was the President of the Ports-to-Plains Trade Corridor Coalition for 14 years. In 2019, Michael received the Texas Road Hand Award, one of the highest honors given by the Texas Department of Transportation, for his tenure in transportation advocacy and work with Ports-to-Plains. Michael continued his career in governmental affairs with the Texas REALTORS® as a West Texas Field Representative.
Michael was a man of many interests. He was a dedicated fan of Texas Tech football, the Dallas Stars, the Chicago Cubs, and the Chicago Bears. Later in life, Michael developed a great passion for yoga and mediation. He also started taking drum lessons at the School of Rock at 56 years old. While he reconnected with his love of classic country music and the rodeo, Michael also enjoyed heavy metal music, and going to see some of his favorite bands with Christy. He also loved traveling, especially to Canada, where he made many good friends.
Michael was a member of First United Methodist Church for over 30 years. He was a dedicated usher every Sunday and a wiseman in the annual Christmas Eve services. Michael was also a member of the Seekers of Grace Sunday school class, where he and Christy made many of their lifelong friends.
Although he wasn’t always forthcoming with his emotions, Michael deeply loved his family and friends. Michael is preceded in death by his mother, Janie Reeves, and the beloved family cat, Original Gordon. He is survived by his wife Christy Reeves, father Charlie Reeves, brother Greg Reeves and his wife Mande, sister Melissa Wells and her husband Brian, daughter Kennedy Reeves, and daughter Payton Reeves Doane and her husband Tyler. Michael also deeply loved his pets, including cats Gordon 2 and Gordon 3, and grand dogs, Rhett and Holly.
