After graduating from high school in Stanton, Texas, Modine obtained a secretarial job with the United States Civil Service Commission in Roswell, New Mexico. There, she met her husband, Lawrence Eugene "Gene" Lundgren, who worked for NASA. Shortly after they married, Modine and Gene moved to El Paso, Texas, where Gene worked with rocket propulsion at NASA's White Sands Test Facility in New Mexico.
Modine was an extremely talented artist who was active in the El Paso art community. She enjoyed painting with oils and watercolors, and was also talented in pottery, ceramics, stained glass, macrame, floral design, and interior decorating. Her family and friends were often the happy recipients of her artwork. Modine's love for art led her to open Mo-Gene's Frame Shop in El Paso, where she helped others beautifully frame their artwork for display.
She was a devoted member of the Westside Church of Christ in El Paso, where she volunteered in many areas. After Gene retired from NASA, they moved to Lubbock to be closer to family. In Lubbock, she and Gene joined the family of worshipers at Sunset Church of Christ.
Modine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her older sister, Clarene Graves of Lubbock; her younger brother, Lee Graves of Lubbock; and her niece Kristie Gilmore of Lubbock.
Modine is survived by her youngest sister, Lucy Miller, and brother-in-law, Merle Miller, of Monahans, Texas; sister-in-law, Mary Graves (Spouse of Lee Graves) of Lubbock; nephew Kerry Miller and spouse Lynn Miller of Lubbock; nephew-in-law, Nathan Gilmore (Spouse of Kristie Gilmore) of Lubbock; niece Vicki Wells and spouse Theodore Wells of Stanton; nephew, Greg Graves of Dallas, Texas; and numerous grand-nieces and nephews, great-grand-nieces and nephews who live all over Texas and in Virginia.
