Nancy Purtell

Nancy Grace Purtell of Lubbock passed from this earth October 2nd, 2012 at her home in Bender Terrace. Graveside services will be held at Resthaven Cemetery at 10AM on Thursday under the direction of Doug Hale, Minister of Vandelia Church of Christ, home of her last church membership.

Nancy was born in Houston, Texas on December 24, 1933 to parents Guy T. and Mary J. Rheubotham. She graduated from Highland Park High School in 1952 and attended the University of Texas in Austin and Texas Tech. She was active in the airlines industry followed by many years in the travel agency business. During her last years prior to retirement, she worked in the retail furniture business. She enjoyed many athletic activities including bowling, square dancing, horseback riding, golf and competitive senior games. She was named senior athlete of the year at the Lubbock Senior Olympics. She enjoyed participating in church activities, Senior Center dances, and various arts and crafts.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and her twin sister, Betty Hill. She is survived by a sister, Martha Owens and husband, Ray of Eden, a sister, Jean Arnett of Lubbock and eleven nieces and nephews, Whitney Owens of Levelland, Mary Jean Owens of Eden, John Hill of Lubbock, Leslie Hill of Lubbock, Jim Hill of Lubbock, Betty Jo Newsome and husband, Jerry of Lubbock, Alvin Arnett and wife, Lori of Dallas, Allison Cobb of Lubbock, Diane and husband, Don Rogers of Richwood, Nell and husband, Don English of Baird and Carol and husband Randall Redinger of Olton.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to The Children’s Home of Lubbock, PO Box 2824, Lubbock 79408 or to a charity of choice.
