Virginia Nell Skidmore, also known as Aunt Nell, Sis, Grand-mama, and Mom, went to heaven on January 29th, 2015. She is joyfully reunited with her parents; two brothers, Earl and Clark Barnett; husband, Joe; and her son, Kenneth Lee. Nell was born in Blossom, TX on February 25th, 1929 to Ray and Bertha Barnett, as the oldest of six children, four boys and two girls. She met and married the love of her life, Joe Mack Skidmore on July 11th, 1948. Together they spent 54 wonder-ful years, primarily in Lubbock, TX. She was a faithful follower of Christ, devoted wife, loving mother, sweet Grandmama, dot-ing Great Grandmama, and cherished friend to all those who knew her. She was a member of Sunset Church of Christ for over 60 years, where she ran her "ministry" of love from her kitchen, constantly baking her famous blueberry muffins for bible study groups, taking dinner to families in need, and celebrating birthdays with her one of a kind chocolate cake. Additionally, she is fondly remembered by students, parents, and teachers alike at Stewart Elementary, where she worked for more than 30 years. Nell loved lunch with friends, Lady Raider basketball games, visits with family, walking her dog, and playing with her grandkids. Her family was blessed to learn many valuable life lessons from Nell during her 85 years, including how to make a mean peanut-butter-chocolate-dipped cookie, garden like a pro, host with grace and enthusiasm, and make and keep lifelong friends. Her spirit lives on in her two sons and their wives, Donnie and Kathy and Gary and Millie. She was adored by her 5 grandkids and great-grandkids, Greg, wife, Emily, and daughters Julia and Anna; David and wife, Liz Kinsley; Kathrine, husband, Christian, and daughters London and Imogen Pimentel; Shelby and husband, Daniel Kelly; and John and finance, Chelsea Rickling. She will be greatly missed by her sister, Yuton Scott (Jerry); two brothers, Clif (Sue) and Dick (Dorthory) Barnett; and sisters-in-law Wanda Barnett and Pat Barnett; an extended family; and friends from all walks of life. Family and friends are invited to join the family at a visitation on Sunday, February 1st at 2-4pm at Resthaven Funeral Home, 5740 West 19th Street. Her son in law, Christian Pimentel, will officiate a private family graveside service to be held at Resthaven Memorial Park at 10:30am on Monday, February 2nd. The memorial service honoring Nell will be held at Sunset Church of Christ, 3723 34th Street, on Monday, February 2nd at 1pm, officiated by Don Williams. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts be made to Lubbock Christian University or Sunset Church of Christ.Condolences may be offered at www.resthavenfuneralhome.com
