

Anita “Nita” Joyce Simmons, age 85, passed away peacefully October 12, 2021. She was born July 24, 1936, in Deming, New Mexico to Cecil and Nola Wheeler. She graduated Carlsbad High School in 1954, and then Draughan’s Business College. She married Bill C. Simmons of Crosbyton, TX on February 3, 1956, in Lubbock Texas, who preceded her in death in 2004.
Nita Loved to be with her family and her friends. She loved to play ping pong, quilt, work puzzles, play 42 dominos, cook, bake, and entertain. Nita loved nature and had a heart for all animals. Nita Loved to act silly around family and friends, as she did off the wall things with her friends.
Nita was baptized in 1958 at Chapel Hill Baptist Church, Lubbock, Texas, WMU President, Young Peoples teacher, church clerk and secretary for both Chapel Hill and Shallowater Baptist Church. She worked as a bank clerk at the Piggly Wiggly, secretary at Simmons Truck Stop and owner/operator of Tumble Weed Fashion.
Nita was a dedicated mother and wife first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as Grandma.
Nita is survived by her sister, Nelda Patman of Paso Robles, CA, three sons and two daughters in laws, Brad Simmons of Panhandle, Kelly Simmons of Lubbock, Tracy and Seena Simmons of Shallowater and Grace Simmons of Lubbock. Five grandchildren and twelve grandchildren, Myles and Courtney Pratt (Wyatt, Vivian, and Kyle) of Panhandle, Joey and Shelby Cargill (Olivia, Kyndal and Preston) of Lubbock, Tyree and Christal Gailes (Mia and Nolan) of Lubbock, Thomas and Sherri Simmons (Jeremy, Alexis and Blaze) of Lubbock and Zackery and Chelsi Simmons (Finnlee) of Lubbock.
Graveside services will be Saturday October 16th at 11:30 am at Resthaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family request donation to the Lubbock Food Bank.
