Ozell was born in St. Joe, TX. to John and Martha Hollinsworth. She had 10 brothers and sisters, which included 2 sets of twins of which she was one. She is predeceased by all her siblings.
She married Noble B. Neal on May 24, 1943, who predeceased her. At the beginning of World War II, at age 20, she left home and rode a bus to California, where she became one of the original “Rosie the Riveter” workers at the Douglas Aircraft plant in Long Beach, CA. She was very proud of her work for the war effort. Noble was stationed in Monterey, CA. and about a year later went AWOL to meet her and proposed. They were married in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. They returned to Lubbock after the war and raised 3 children, moving between California and Lubbock several times. Ozell lived the past 6 years in Carlsbad, CA.
