Raymond Duvall

Raymond was born September 16, 1929, in Parker County, Texas, to C.L. “Jack” and Odessa Rhea Duvall. He married the love of his life, Betty Ann Williams, on October 11, 1951 in Earth, Texas, and together they built a life centered around faith, family, and community. During this time Raymond served in the Army Air Force from 1950-1953.

Raymond dedicated his life to education, serving as a coach, ag teacher, principal, and superintendent. He taught at Bryson ISD, Amherst ISD (1958 to 1977) and ended as Superintendent of Spade ISD (1977 to 1985). Of all his roles, he especially loved being an ag teacher. Mr. “D” inspired countless students over a career that spanned more than 35 years. He retired at age 55 but continued to stay active, working in real estate and teaching both defensive driving and driver’s education.

Beyond his professional life, Raymond loved serving his church at Ropes First Baptist. After he was no longer able to serve physically, he began sending birthday and anniversary cards to everyone in his church family. He also found great joy in gardening and sharing the fruits of his labor with others. His generosity, humor, and love for people touched everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his children, Eddie Duvall and Sandy (Kenny) Dukatnik. Grandchildren, Jayneene (Kenneth) Cole, Jessica (Eric) Phillips, Kadi Jo (Dustin) Tichnell, Kendra Dukatnik, and Kevin Reyes; brother, Robert (Linda) Duvall; and great-grandchildren, Jacob Phillips, Ethan Phillips, Aubree Cole, and Matilynn Tichnell.

Raymond was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty; his parents, Jack and Odessa Duvall; and siblings, Billy Jack Duvall, Joyce Stubblefield, and Pauline Free. Raymond’s life was one of service, love, and quiet strength. His family and friends will remember his unwavering kindness, dedication to education, and the many lives he touched throughout his 96 years.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to the Ropesville Baptist Church or your favorite charity.
