René Salazar, 62, passed away on October 10, 2023 in Lubbock, Texas. René was born on July 9, 1961, in Abernathy, Texas. He was a loving father, uncle, and brother. He will be remembered for his intelligence, loving nature, and generous spirit. He had a great sense of humor and was always there to make people smile.
René spent almost 40 years working as a courier for FedEx Express. In addition to earning multiple awards for safe driving, he was known for his integrity, strong work ethic, and dedication to a job well done. He was loved by his customers for his loyalty and kindness.
René's family was his pride and joy. He cherished every moment with them and created lasting memories.
He is survived by his daughter, Shelbey Burkett, his son-in-law, Travis Burkett, his grandchildren, Colter and Case Burkett, his son, Anthony Salazar and Shelbey and Anthony’s brother, Cade Hughes. René is also survived by his siblings, Ofelia Canales (Sam Canales), Leticia Rocha, Carlos Salazar (Jane Salazar), and Gilbert Salazar (Rosemary Salazar). He will be deeply missed by his nephews Juan Carlos Rocha and Ben Canales, and his nieces, Sarah Perkins, Nerissa Patton, and Melita Salazar. He will also be missed by many grand nephews and nieces. René was preceded in death by his father, Salvador Salazar, his mother, Eleuteria Salazar, and his sister, Elia Salazar.
Visitation for René will be held on Monday, October 16, from 5pm to 8pm at Resthaven Funeral Home in Lubbock, Texas. The funeral service will take place on Tuesday, October 17, at 10am, with the burial to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park .
