Richard H. Bruns of Lubbock, passed away on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at the age of 95. He was born September 25, 1922 in Oriska, ND.

Richard retired from the United States Air Force and later worked in a variety of positions within the community including an ROTC instructor at Coronado High School, security at Texas Tech, Captain of the Lubbock Airport Police and as a security guard at Plains National Bank. He was a past master of the Lubbock Masonic Lodge 1392 and a worthy patron of Eastern Star Freedom Chapter 898.

Richard married Wanda (Sonafrank) Bruns who preceded him in death in 2002. He was blessed to have remarried Margot Tidwell in 2006.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 12 years, Margot Bruns; daughter, Lorelei Finch of Lancaster, CA; son, Michael Bruns who preceded him in death in 2013; daughter in-law, Gail Bruns of Niceville, FL; stepdaughter, Peggy Holland and husband John of San Dimas, CA; stepsons, Daniel Broadley and wife Lynn of Lamesa, and Billy Tidwell; grandson, Shawn Bruns of Lubbock and his fiancée Amy Ayala; granddaughter, Michelle Allamon and husband Lyle of Niceville, FL; step-granddaughters, Tasha Tidwell, and Tabitha Ochoa and husband Chris of Lubbock; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8: 00 p.m., Monday, August 13, 2018 at Resthaven Funeral Home.

Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at Resthaven’s Abbey Chapel.

Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Lubbock Masonic Lodge 1392, 4539 Brownfield Drive, (79410).

Biography

      Richard H. Bruns was known as many things to many people. He was a loved one, a friend, and someone special. To family and friends who knew him best, Richard will be remembered as a very exceptional person.

       He was born on September 25, 1922 in Oriska, North Dakota and was the son of Herbert J. and Irene Bruns.

      Richard married Wanda (Sonafrank) Bruns who preceded him in death in 2002. He was blessed to have remarried Margot Tidwell in 2006. Richard worked hard to be a good father to his children and he did his best to fulfill their needs. Richard was blessed with two children, a son, Michael, and a daughter, Lorelei. Another blessing for Richard was the gift of three step-children: Peggy, Daniela nd Billy; two grandchildren and two step-grandchildren, Shawn and Michelle, and Tasha and Tabitha.

      Fortunately, Richard enjoyed what he did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Richard worked diligently and did his best to succeed in his career. He was employed for multiple agencies such as Coronado High School as a ROTC instructor, Texas Tech as security, Lubbock Airport as Captain of Police and Plains National Bank as a security guard. Richard always sought to be a team player, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done.

      Richard was a United States Air Force veteran. During this time he was employed for the military police. His fellow soldiers viewed him as a brother in arms and knew that he was as much a part of their family as their loved ones back home.

      Throughout his life, Richard was a doer and was always actively involved in professional and community organizations. Throughout his later years, Richard was an active member of the Lubbock Masonic Lodge 1392 where he was the past master and was also a worthy patron of Eastern Star Freedom Chapter 898.

      Richard passed away on August 8, 2018 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Margot Bruns; daughter, Lorelei Finch; daughter in-law, Gail Bruns; stepdaughter, Peggy Holland and husband John; stepsons, Daniel Broadley and wife Lynn, and Billy Tidwell; grandson, Shawn Bruns and his fiancée, Amy Ayala; granddaughter, Michelle Allamon and husband, Lyle; step-granddaughters, Tasha Tidwell, and Tabitha Ochoa and husband, Chris; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Services were held at Resthaven's Abbey Chapel. Richard was laid to rest in Resthaven Memorial Park in Lubbock, Texas.

      Simply stated, Richard was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Richard leaves behind him a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life he touched will always remember Richard H. Bruns.
