Rob was born August 26, 1945, to Raymond and Fae Robb Hiner in Arthur, NE. He was baptised on December 31st, 1956 at Arthur Baptist Church in Arthur, NE and confirmed in his faith on March 19th, 1967 at Christ Lutheran Church in Columbus, NE. After graduating high school in Columbus NE, he enlisted in the Navy where he served for three and a half years during the Vietnam War as an electrician on the USS St Paul. Upon returning, he married Mary Heibel Hiner in April of 1967. He received an associates degree in electronics from Central Nebraska Tech and began work for Xerox. Together they had three children. After brief stints in Greeley, Colorado and Los Gatos, California, they settled in Richardson,Texas where he continued his work for Xerox while raising their family. He married Sheri Lynn Hiner in October of 2001. He retired from Xerox after 34 years in November of 2007 and relocated with Sher to Lubbock, Texas to be close to family.
Active until the very end of his life, Rob volunteered his time and talents to home improvement projects all over the city for friends, family, and his church. He was an active member of Hope Lutheran Church in Lubbock; participating in Tapping the Faith, men’s retreats, and rebuilding projects for the congregation. He was a talented carpenter, plumber, electrician, and flooring installer. There was never a home improvement project too big or a problem he couldn't solve. He also enjoyed traveling in his motor home, playing poker with his friends, golfing, Texas Tech baseball, fishing, hunting, and spending time with the people he loved.
Rob is survived by his wife, Sheri Hiner; children, Brian (Michele) Hiner, Kimberly (Glen) Frick, Eric (Heather) Hiner; step-daughter, Amy (Vaun) Kohler; siblings, Dale (Mary) Skinner, Jean Rae (Harvey) Moore; grandchildren, Kaitlyn (Cade) Moore, Hayden (fiancé Berkeley Adams) Frick, Bryce Hiner, Lindsey (Clayton) Echols, Ally Frick, Kathryn Hiner, Lauryn Hiner, Madelyn Hiner; and step-grandchildren Robbie Kohler, Katie Kohler.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Hiner and Fae Thrun and sister, Nellie Mertz.
The family has chosen the Hope Lutheran “bus barn bathroom” building completion fund in lieu of flowers. As Rob would ask with any project, “Why hasn’t this been finished already? What have you been doing?”
