Robert Bryan Adams Sr.

Robert Bryan Adams, Sr., lovingly know as “Sonny”, was born on November 28, 1942, to Jennings Bryan Adams and Ruby Lee Langley. He grew up in Plainview, Texas, attended school there, and proudly served our country in the United States Navy.

Sonny dedicated 36 years of his life to the electrical industry, working for LPL Electric Company and SPS Electric Company before retiring to the serene mountains of Cloudcroft, New Mexico. He found joy in the camaraderie of hunting and fishing, had a deep love for old westerns – especially anything starring Clint Eastwood – and held a soft spot for Haley Mills. He was known for his quick wit, sarcastic humor, unwavering loyalty, and big heart.

At the age of 21, Sonny gave his life to Jesus. After moving to Cloudcroft, he became a member of Mayhill Baptist Church.

He was the embodiment of the wild, wild west – until tamed by his lifelong sweetheart, Julia Sue Whitehead Adams, his beloved wife of 62 years. Together, they raised their proud and joy – the “Fantastic Four” – Melynda Bateman, Melanie Breakel, Robin Adams, and Robert Adams Jr. With hands of steel and a golden heart, Sonny helped shape 3 steel magnolias and a cool dude.

Sonny passed peacefully at home on October 11, 2025, surrounded by his girls.

He is survived by his wife Susie, and his children: Melynda Bateman, Melanie Breckel, Robin Adams, and Robert Adams. Also left to cherish his memory are his sons-in-law, Scott Bateman and Kevin Breckel; his daughters-in-law Alice Jacquez-Adams and Lena Laxton; his grandchildren KaCee Breckel, Colt Breckel, Chisum Breckel, Lexi Bateman, Kayton Jones, Braydon Jones, Igby Adams, and Ian Adams; his great grandchildren, Aidden Torres, L’e Torres, Xander Torres, Jackson Garcia, and Jhonen Garica; and his sister, Claudie Anderson.

He was preceded in death by his cherished grandson, Brittan Todd Adams Breckel.

Sonny loved fiercely, lived fully, and leaves behind a legacy of grit, grace, and deep devotion to his family and faith. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
