Dr. Robert C. Boyd passed away peacefully on June 27, 2026, surrounded by friends and family. He was a devoted physician, caring father and grandfather, trusted friend, and a man whose life was defined by quiet service, integrity, and compassion.
Born on April 13, 1953 in Lubbock, Robert dedicated his life to helping others. After earning his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, he completed his residency in anesthesiology and went on to spend more than forty years caring for patients in and around Lubbock, Texas.
While medicine was his profession, it was never the whole story. Those who knew Robert knew a man of steady character, sharp intellect, and quiet dry humor. He was also an avid learner who was always trying to master a new craft even in his final years. He had a passion for Amateur radio and astronomy, always looking for ways to communicate with others and understand the unknown.
In later years, Robert faced profound health challenges that eventually forced him to step away from the career and hobbies he loved. Even then, he met each day with courage and resilience, teaching those around him that strength is often found not in avoiding hardship, but in facing it with dignity. During this time, he found fellowship with the men’s group at the Southcrest Baptist Church, where he devoted himself to his friends and the word of God.
His greatest legacy lives in his family, the values he passed on and the example he set for others. He believed that if something was worth doing, it was worth doing well. He taught that lesson every day, often without saying a word.
He is survived by his brother, Richard, his two sons, Robert and Timothy, and his two grandchildren, Declan and Rumi.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Frances.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the physicians, nurses, hospice caregivers, friends, and loved ones who walked alongside Robert throughout his final journey.
While the operating rooms eventually grew quiet, the impact of his life did not. It continues in every patient who was given a second chance, in every colleague who learned from him and in every member of his family who carries a part of him forward. He will be deeply missed and always loved.
A celebration of Robert's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the National Parks Foundation or that acts of kindness be performed in his memory.
