

Robert Henry Whitaker, 89, left this world for his heavenly home on Tuesday, October 3, 2017. Robert Henry Whitaker was born on February 24, 1928 in Tipton, Oklahoma to Walter H. and Betty Whitaker. He attended the University of Oklahoma.
On August 27, 1949, he married the love of his life, Wilma Faye Dollar in Ada, Oklahoma. He was a successful builder in Lubbock since 1950, where he constructed residences and apartment communities. He owned and managed apartment communities for over 20 years. His professional membership organizations include: Home Builders Association, Lubbock Apartment Association (where he was President from 1973-1974), Lubbock Building Board of Appeals, and Building Code Study Committee.
He was a long-time member of Sunset Church of Christ where he served as an Elder from 1967-2001. After retirement, he volunteered to help build the Legacy Play Village. He was a duplicate bridge Life Master and enjoyed gardening, family game nights, and ice cream.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John and (Violet) Morley, sister-in-law, Billie Whitaker, and grandson, John Whitaker Hitt.
He is survived by his wife, Faye; his brother, Wayne Whitaker of Houston, TX; daughters: Gwen (Thomas) Wright of Lubbock, Gail (Jim) Hitt of North Richland Hills, TX, Jan (Kris) Thomas of Broken Arrow, OK, and Sandy (Joe) Robinson of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren: Tricia Grimstead, Marsha Ailey, Amy Daley, Jessica Gillen, Kayla Taylor, David Robinson, and Rachel Bedford; great-grandchildren: Tanner Pylant, Gabby, Daniel and Lily Grimstead, Andrew and Levi Daley, Whitaker, Ella and Edison Ailey, Madeline and John Gillen, and Olivia Robinson.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Resthaven Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., at Sunset Church of Christ, Friday, October 6, 2017. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Lubbock Christian University or Sunset International Bible Institute.
