Roger spent part of his childhood in Greece, where his parents served as missionaries—an experience that shaped his curiosity, compassion, and deep appreciation for people and cultures. Roger would later go on to graduate at Goddard High School in Roswell, NM. He attended Lubbock Christian University where he was active in the Alpha Chi Delta social club. After receiving his BA in communications, he moved to Plainview, Texas, where he met the love of his life Lanell Polvado. They were married on the 17th of March 1978. Roger went on to work in banking, insurance, computer programming, and later teaching. His greatest Joy was teaching and the love he shared so freely to at-risk youth at the Hays County Impact Center (CISD). Roger worked hard to provide for his family and taught us all the value of perseverance, kindness, and honesty. Roger loved his Lord and Savior, spending time with family, playing guitar, singing on the church praise team, teaching bible classes, scuba diving, riding motorcycles, hunting, and working on knives. He was the kind of person who could light up a room with a smile or a corny joke.
Roger is survived by his loving wife, Lanell Carey; his sons, Ryan Carey and Steven Carey; and his cherished grandchildren, Damian and Kyndal Carey. He is also survived by his siblings Greg Carey, Sharon Davies, Mark Carey and Jared Carey. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister in-law Teresa Carey, and nephew Colton Carey.
Roger was preceded in death by his niece Laura Davies and nephew Robert Davies.
