Roy Brown

Roy was born June 23, 1946 at Santo Tomas Hospital in Panama City, Panama to Clyde Cornelius Brown and Gilberta Sanchez Brown.

Roy grew up in Parque Le Fevre, Panama, with two brothers and three sisters and his childhood pet, Blackie. The Army was Roy’s first career. Roy was a Vietnam Veteran. He served 24 years as a non-commissioned officer, with duty stations that carried him and his family from Alaska to Texas and overseas to Korea and Panama, and he retired as a First Sergeant from Ft. Lee, Virginia. Apart from his family, his service was the accomplishment he held above all others.

Additionally, he worked with J.B. Hunt before working an additional 25 years with TST and Key Energy in Stanton, TX. Retired to Conway, Arkansas before moving to Lubbock, TX.

On May 31, 1970, Roy married Jane “Janie” Laura Presnell. Together they had twins, Laura and Vira, and shared 56 years of loving marriage.

Roy is survived by his wife, Jane Laura Presnell Brown; his twin daughters, Laura Jane Edge (Dearl R “Trey” Edge, III), and Nelis Elvira Heltzel (Lawrence Westfall), and Robert Heltzel father of his only granddaughter; his grandchildren, Dustin "Nathan” Nathaniel Sanchez (Jingli “Lucy” Tian-Sanchez, Blake "Alex” Alexander Sanchez), Dearl “Ross” Edge, IV, Neil Jameson Edge, Jeromy Daniel Edge, and Lauryn Francesca Heltzel; his great-grandchildren, Yage “Jacob” Tian, Kimber Yana Tian; his brother, Clyde Brown; and his sisters, Mildred Brown-Pritzl and Maritza Halada. Mother-in-law, Nelis “Nelly” Presnell-Byer, and sister-in-laws, Rosa Riley and Linda Posey, brother-in-law, James "Jimmy" (Patsy) Presnell, Jr., and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Gilberta Brown; father-in-law, James Presnell, and his brothers, Alejandro (Doris) Sanchez; and his sister, Omaira (Wayne) Cabe and brother-in-law, William Riley.

Roy’s friends and family will host a visitation on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, from 6:00-8:00p.m. at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. Services will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at 11:00 at Lake Ridge Chapel followed by a burial at the West Texas Veteran’s Cemetery in Lubbock, Texas with Chaplain Michael Walton officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Veterans or cancer associations of choice.

The family would like to give a heartfelt thank-you to the staff and the palliative care team at UMC, specifically Dr. Manziel Patel, Dr. William “Brett” Butler, and the two nurses that provided the highest level of care and attention, Kaylee and Kody, and Chaplain Michael who visited and prayed with him repeatedly in his final days.
