Royce Alvin Thomasson made the transition from his earthly home to his eternal home on February 4, 2023. Royce was a loving husband, father, grandad, great-grandad (lovingly known as "Da"), son, brother, uncle, and friend.
Royce was born on March 27, 1940 in Estelline, Texas, Hall county, to Clint Alton Thomasson and Mildred Lorene "Howard" Thomasson. His family lived in several west Texas areas. He started 1st grade in Abernathy and moved to Smyer, TX mid-term. He graduated from Smyer High School as the class valedictorian in May of 1958. Following his graduation, he attended Draughn Business College to study bookkeeping. He met the love of his life, Donna Sue Skelton in December of 1958. After a brief courtship, they were married June 19, 1959 and made their home in Lubbock, TX.
Royce was honorably discharged after serving in the National Guard and then the US Army Reserves from March 1957 until February 1965.
He worked for Nortex Hide Company briefly before transitioning to Furr's supermarkets administration office in the information technology department for over 22 years. He completed his career working as an operations manager for over 22 years in the IT department for Texas Tech University. In his retirement years, he delivered vehicles to customers for Gene Messer Ford.
His biggest accomplishments, besides giving his life to Christ, was being a loving and lifetime partner to his wife Donna, and father to three daughters, nine grandchildren, and four precious great-grandchildren.
Royce is survived by his loving wife, Donna; his daughters: Sheryl Hatcher (Daniel), D'onda Kristan (Mike), and Rhonda Fuston (Randy); his grandchildren; great-grandchildren; his only sibling, Cecil Alton Thomasson and wife Gloria; sister-in-law Rose Mary Crump; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A special thank you to the staff at Covenant hospital who took care of him in his final days.
Funeral arrangements will be handled by Resthaven Funeral Home and interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Park following cremation.
A Memorial service will be held at Quaker Avenue Church of Christ, 1701 Quaker Avenue, on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 2pm.
