A celebration of her life of 90 years will be Saturday the 31st at 10:00 AM at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Monty Pettyjohn officiating. Burial and grave site services will be at 10 AM on Saturday the 31st in the Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.
Ruby passed away Saturday the 24th at the home of Larry and Daylene Branum while in hospice.
Ruby was born in Tahoka Texas on December 29, 1930, to Pete and Virginia Estes.
She attended school at Lubbock High School and upon graduation completed two semesters at Texas Tech. She later met and married the love of her life, Windle “Bill” Branum on December 18, 1948.
Ruby was a long-time resident of Lubbock and a member of Sunset Church of Christ. Ruby was a devout Christian going to church and reading her favorite bible every day.
She worked for Aramark for over 20 years as a pastry chef for the entire LISD school district. Her passion and expertise for baking cakes and decorating them gained favor among friends and family who requested her custom wedding and birthday cakes for their special day.
Second only to baking she enjoyed reading and working crossword puzzles. She was also an avid collector of birds and was happy to talk about them anytime you were willing to listen.
She was a devoted wife of 40 years to Windle “Bill” Branum and a loving, caring and compassionate mother to her 4 children, Johnny Branum who passed on March 23, 2021, Larry Branum of Fort Worth Tx, Ronny Branum of Midland, Tx, and Lisa Williams of Lubbock, Tx.
Ruby had 6 grandkids: Matt Branum, Michael Branum, Shellie Alvarado, Amber Branum, Cody Williams, Tanya Garrett and 10 great grandkids.
Survivors include three children Larry Branum of Fort Worth Tx, Ronny Branum of Midland, Tx, and Lisa Williams of Lubbock, Tx. Ruby is also survived by 2 sisters Lavelta M. King of Odessa, Tx, Effie “Tony” L. Lovelace of Seymour, Tx and Tom E. Estes of Castle Rock, Colorado.
Pallbearers will be Matt Branum, Michael Branum, Caleb Branum, Tom E. Estes, Jayson Estes and Cody Williams. Sammy Estes will act as honorary pallbearer.
