Ruby Rogers Mitchell passed away peacefully on September 9, 2018 in Austin, Texas. She was born December 10, 1924 in Corinth, Mississippi to Edward and Annie Rogers. She was a resident of Lubbock, Texas for over 65 years before her move to Austin.

She worked for Furr’s Cafeteria and Monterey High School in Lubbock until her retirement. We remember Mom for her positive, bright, and colorful outlook on life and a life well lived. She was a lifelong Baptist and member of Southside and Memorial Baptist Churches in Lubbock.

She is predeceased by her husband Ralph and son Philip. She is survived by her son, Roy and his wife Carla of Austin, Texas; grandchildren Seth of Lubbock, Texas, Josh and Caitlin of Lockhart, Texas, Madison of Austin, Texas and one great-grandchild Justin of Fort Worth, Texas. Also surviving her are numerous nephews and nieces.

The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Kenneth Mitchell and Dr. Bali Netaji for their tremendous help and guidance, as well as, the staff at St. David’s North Austin Medical Center, Hospice Austin and the Christopher House for their support.

A memorial service will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, 5730 West 19th in Lubbock, Texas at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 22, 2018.

Ruby has been a friend to our family since i was a child. She had a beautiful soul, always had a smile and loved life. Enjoyed having her at my Dad's 90th birthday dinner.

We will miss seeing you when we visit my Dad in Lubbock.

Ruby was a very nice neighbor for over 30 years. She will be missed very much.



      Ruby Rogers Mitchell was known as many things to many people. He was a loved one, a friend, and someone special. To family and friends who knew him best, Ruby will be remembered as a very exceptional person.

       He was born on December 10, 1924 in Corinth, Mississippi and was the son of Edward and Annie Rogers.

       Empathic and loyal, Ruby was committed to making his new family happy. She exchanged wedding vows with Ralph Mitchell. Ruby worked hard to be a good father to his children and he did his best to fulfill their needs. Ruby was blessed with two sons, Philip and Roy. Another blessing for Ruby was the gift of four grandchildren, Seth, Josh, Caitlin and Madison.

      Ruby’s faith was important to him. He was a life-long Baptist member of Southside and Memorial Baptist Churches in Lubbock.

      Ruby passed away on September 9, 2018 at Christopher House in Austin, Texas. He is survived by her son, Roy and his wife, Carla; grandchildren Seth, Josh, Caitlin, Madison and one great-grandchild Justin. Also surviving her are numerous nephews and nieces. Services were held at Resthaven's Abbey Chapel. Ruby was laid to rest in Resthaven Memoriak Park in Lubbock, Texas.

      Simply stated, Ruby was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Ruby leaves behind him a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life he touched will always remember Ruby Rogers Mitchell.
