Rosary for Rufino S. Maldonado, Sr. 88, of Shallowater will be held at 7 PM, Sunday, December 9, 2018 at Resthaven’s Abbey Chapel. Mass will be held at 10 AM Monday, December 10, 2018 at St. Philip Benzi Catholic Church of Shallowater with the Rev. John Smith, Rev. George Poonley and Monsignor Nicholas Rendon officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home & Memorial Park, Lubbock, TX.

Rufino passed away Tuesday, December 4, 2018 in his home in Shallowater. He was born June 1, 1930 in Corpus Christi. He moved to Shallowater in early 1950’s. Rufino married Emelia Revilla in 1959 in Lubbock, she preceded him in death March 6, 2003. He was a member of St Philip Benizi Catholic Church of Shallowater were he was one of the founders. Rufino was involved in the jamaica, collecting offerings and being involved in the church.

Survivors include Children: Connie Oldham and husband, Jeff of Boerne, Angel Maldonado and wife Stacy of Lubbock, Rufino Maldonado, Jr of Charlotte, N.C., Agatha Caballero and husband Rick of Lubbock, Joe Maldonado of Lubbock, Victor Maldonado and wife, Terri of Shallowater Victoria Bryan of Lubbock. 2 other children: Gertrudia and Artemio Padilla and Nachita and Jorge Martinez. Grandchildren: Brandon Maldonado and wife, Ashley, Josh Maldonado, Justin Maldonado, Cody Maldonado, Bailey Bryan, Chad Bryan, Allie Maldonado, Madison and husband DJ Gollahon, Paige Maldonado, Scoti Lack, Mira Roches, Michael Caballero, Xavier Cabellero, Nicholas Caballero and Andrew Caballero, Luis Padilla, Ana Padilla and Artemio Padilla, Jr. and 3 great grandchildren; Kennedy Gollahon, Mason Maldonado and Andrew Maldonado.

Biography

Rufino S. Maldonado Sr. was known as many things to many people. He was a loved one, a friend, and someone special. To family and friends who knew him best, Rufino will be remembered as a very exceptional person.

      Rufino was born on June 1, 1930 at in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was the son of Angel and Agnes Maldonado.

       Empathic and loyal, Rufino was committed to making his new family happy. He exchanged wedding vows with Emelia Revilla in 1959 in Lubbock, Texas.  Rufino worked hard to be a good father to his children and he did his best to fulfill their needs. Rufino was blessed with eleven children, six sons: Angel, Rufino Jr., Joe, Victor, Artemio and Jorge, and five daughters: Connie, Agatha, Victoria, Gertrudia and Nachita. Another blessing for Rufino was the gift of sixteen grandchildren, Brandon, Josh, Justin, Cody, Bailey, Chad, Allie, Madison, Paige, Scoti, Mira, Michael, Xavier, Luis, Ana and Artemio Jr.

      Fortunately, Rufino enjoyed what he did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Rufino worked diligently and did his best to succeed in his career. His primary occupation was truck driving. Rufino always sought to be a team player, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done.

      Rufino’s faith was important to him. He was a member of St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church of Shallowater where he was one of the founders. During that time, he was involved in the Jamaica and collecting offerings.

      Rufino passed away on December 4, 2018 at his residence in Shallowater, Texas. He is survived by his children: Connie Oldham and husband, Jeff, Angel Maldonado and wife, Stacy, Rufino Maldonado, Jr., Agatha Caballero and husband, Rick, Joe Maldonado, Victor Maldonado and wife, Terri, Victoria Bryan; other children: Gertrudia and Artemio Padilla and Nachita and Jorge Martinez; grandchildren: Brandon Maldonado and wife, Ashley, Josh Maldonado, Justin Maldonado, Cody Maldonado, Bailey Bryan, Chad Bryan, Allie Maldonado, Madison and husband DJ Gollahon, Paige Maldonado, Scoti Lack, Mira Roches, Michael Caballero, Xavier Cabellero, Luis Padilla, Ana Padilla and Artemio Padilla, Jr. and 3 great grandchildren; Kennedy Gollahon, Mason Maldonado and Andrew Maldonado. Services were held at St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church. Rufino was laid to rest in Resthaven Memorial Park in Lubbock, Texas.

      Simply stated, Rufino was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Rufino leaves behind him a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life he touched will always remember Rufino S. Maldonado Sr.
