Ruth was born on September 25, 1927 and grew up in O’Donnell. She attended West Texas College in Canyon and married John (Jay) Havens in 1947. They resided in Amarillo, then in Quanah for 16 years, and in Lubbock for 46 years. Since 2012 she has resided in the Temple-Belton area and then in Arlington to be near family.
Ruth worked at the Texas Tech University Press for a number of years. She was a longtime member of Oakwood Baptist Church in Lubbock. She taught GA’s and served as hostess for the bereavement committee and many other responsibilities. She loved to sew, and while she expressed her love for her grandchildren and great grandchildren in many ways, one tangible way was by living long enough to complete a quilt or baby blanket for each grand and each great grand. She loved to host her family often, and the family all loved her chicken spaghetti the best. Ruth was dearly loved by all who knew her.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Marie Yandell of O’Donnell, four older brothers, and her husband, who passed away in 2014.
She is survived by three children and their spouses: Tommy and Gloria Havens of North Little Rock, Alana and Bruce Anderson of Belton, and Alicia and Dan Curry of Arlington; eight grandchildren: Toby Havens (Amber), Robin Curry (Jill), Craig Curry (Fallon), Jeffrey Havens (Rebekah), Lisa Havens Wilhite (Andy), Reagan Anderson (Kelly), Crystal Curry Williamson (Tommy), and Lynnette Anderson Torres (A J); and 29 great grandchildren.
Friends and family are invited to join in celebrating Ruth’s life on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at Resthaven Funeral Home, beginning with viewing and visitation at 10:00 am and a brief graveside burial service at 11:00, followed by more visitation and sharing of memories.
