Sam played on the football team (#32) for Floydada HS and graduated in 1948. He went to TTU where he joined the Saddle Tramps and met his wife, Emma Jean Walton. He graduated from TTU in 1952, then married Jean on March 21, 1952. They had two sons.
Sam and Jean worked together in the insurance and real estate business for over 40 years. Hale Insurance was started by Sam’s father, in the 1930’s, selling life insurance and real estate from his car and home. Sam was also a cotton farmer for many years. Sam and Jean not only worked together but they loved to travel together through the years. Jean passed away in July 2010 after 58 years of marriage.
Sam’s faith was unshakeable; he always read the entire Bible every year. His love of the Lord was obvious as he taught Sunday School at the First Baptist Church of Floydada and then served as a deacon. When he moved to Lubbock, he became a member of Monterey Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Lions Club, as a “people person” it was a perfect fit.
Sam loved his Red Raiders and was an avid fan, even while in the hospital these past two weeks, he was watching his Red Raiders. He taught his sons to always read the sports page first.
Sam was blessed to find a second love with Pat Knight; they married on February 12, 2011. They also loved to travel together, especially to watch Pat’s grandkids play sports.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Pat Knight; two sons, Dr. Andy Hale (Della) of Lubbock and Randy Hale (Alison) of Ft. Worth; three grandchildren, Laura Hale Fuqua (Sean) of Amarillo, Jennifer Hale and John Hale of Lubbock; Pat’s three sons, Ted Landry (Sherri) of Lubbock, Kelly Landry (Jenny) of Houston and Ed Landry (Linda) of Houston. He also leaves behind his beloved dog, Chloe.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, March 14, 2021 at Resthaven Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 15, 2021 at Monterey Baptist Church in Lubbock.
