Samuel "Sonny" Irving Jordan

Samuel "Sonny" Irving Jordan, known on the fire department as "ZuZu" passed away on April 20, 2020. On Friday, April 24, 2020, from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm, Mr. Jordan's viewing under the guidelines of the city of officials at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. The family will celebrate his life of 77 years at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 25, 2020, at Lake Ridge Chapel. A live stream of the service is available and available for thirty days on this page. Samuel married Sandra Haggard on November 5, 1965, at Broadway Church of Christ in Lubbock, Texas. Sonny was called home to the Lord early Monday morning, April 20, 2020. He was a Christian, husband, "Daddy" to three children and "PaPa" to five grandchildren that he adored. Sonny loved to be outside tending to his garden and just to enjoy nature. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping with his family, and teaching his grandchildren about nature. Sonny was a member of Green Lawn Church of Christ, a member of the International Association of Firefighters and the National Rifle Association. Sonny was a shining example to his family. He believed you should work hard, have fun, and put everyone else ahead of yourself.Sonny served the citizens of Lubbock as a firefighter for 27 years. He joined the fire department in 1968 and retired as an equipment operator in 1995. He was quick-witted and earned the name "ZuZu" early on at the fire station. He looked forward to his shifts at the station and loved all the men he worked with. "Sonny" had a whole library of funny responses that the guys referred to as "Zu-isms" and referred to him as the professor of "Zu-ology 101".  He was a very talented house painter on his days off. He taught his sons always to do the job right the first time and go the extra mile for someone. He took pride in his work and loved to see the look on his customer's face when he was finished. He would usually respond, "That will have to do until you find a real painter." He was well known for his pies and cobblers that he baked for anyone who needed cheering up. Sonny met his wife, Sandra, while driving around the Hi-D-Ho and Cloverlake.  Sandra was with her best friend Barbara, and Sonny was with Gary.  Little did they know that they had met their future spouses.  Sonny and Gary were inseparable and spoke 2 to 3 times daily.  We were sure they were solving the problems of the world.  The four of them became lifelong friends traveling to Washington, D.C., Virginia, and Canton making many wonderful memories. Survivors include his wife, Sandra Jordan; children, Sabrina Jordan Murphy, and husband, Ricky; Todd and Shannon Jordan; five grandchildren, Braxton, Savanah, and McKinley Murphy, Kailey, and Gage Jordan; three sisters, Sylvia Postlewait and husband Floyd; Ann Haggard and husband, Michael; and Linda Church; brother-in-law, Charles Hargrove, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Doris Jordan; and sister, Janice Hargrove.
