Sandra Faye Sitton

Sandra Faye Sitton passed away peacefully on Friday, July 24th surrounded by several close family and friends. She was born in El Paso, Texas, on February 10, 1949. She is survived by her beloved children, Dusti Ann White (Tim), Michael Pete Sitton (Leslie), and Richard Cox Sitton (Janelle) and was “Gugu” to her three granddaughters, Madison, Emma, and Maggie. She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 20 years, Olen Paden and their adored dog, Poppy. Sandi is also survived by her sister, Shirley Webb, and many extended family members, including Frank and Windy Sitton, nephew, Johnny Sitton, and his children, Anne Marie and Pete. Also niece, Lisa Wolfinger, along with members of the Canada and Webb families, will remember her fondly.

She was preceded in death by her former husband, Ron Sitton, her mother, LaVerne Canada Comer, brother, Sam Webb, and nephew, Devin Powell.

Sandi graduated from McMurry College with a B.S. in Elementary School Education and was a member of the Chanters Choir. She received her Masters in Early Childhood Education from North Texas State University in 1974 and worked as an elementary school teacher for over 10 years.

After teaching elementary school, Sandi followed her true passion and became a teacher in the College of Education at Texas Tech University where she worked for over 15 years specializing in children’s literature. Sandi took great pride in her work at Texas Tech and was dedicated to inspiring the next generation of teachers. She considered her students to be her “adopted family” and treated them as such, maintaining close relationships with them throughout her life. In addition to teaching, Sandi co-founded the Sitton-Burkhart Reading Room in the Texas Tech College of Education in honor of her grandmother, Mamo, who instilled in her the importance of education.

Beyond teaching, Sandi was a valued member of the Junior League of Lubbock and the Lubbock Symphony Guild. She served on multiple boards, including the Y.W.C.A., Chamber of Commerce Women’s Division and most significantly, the Board of Directors for the Ronald McDonald House. Sandi was proud to have played an instrumental role in opening the Lubbock chapter of the Ronald McDonald House! She also worked to raise awareness for breast cancer, as she was a survivor of 28 years.

Above all, Sandi’s greatest calling in life were her children and grandchildren. She loved them completely and spoiled them with all she had to give. Sandi found joy in so many places in life, like butterflies, sunsets, hearts, fall foliage, traveling, reading, music, the arts and decorating for the holidays. She brought her spunk into every room she entered and will be remembered for the way she brought people together and served her community, especially her community at Texas Tech. GUNS UP!!

Her family will host a time of celebration and remembrance from 3:00-5:00 pm, Sunday, August 2, 2026, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers.
