It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Sharon Ann Mayberry, who passed away on October 9, 2026, in Lubbock, Texas, at the age of 76. She was born on July 31, 1950, in Creston, Iowa, to Harlan and Betty Strauser.
Sharon was known for her love of animals, especially cats, her willingness to help anyone in need, and her unforgettable sense of humor, which could be a little inappropriate at times—one of the many reasons people loved her. She never knew a stranger and had a special way of making people laugh and feel welcome.
Sharon spent many years working in the oil field industry in Midland, Texas, where she formed lasting friendships. She was a member of Lakeridge Methodist Church and enjoyed attending Bible studies. Her faith in Jesus was an important part of her life. After retiring, she enjoyed working at Dollar Tree, where she was loved by coworkers and customers alike for her friendly smile and caring nature.
Above all, Sharon treasured her family, especially her grandchildren, who were her world. She loved being there to cheer them on, no matter the activity or occasion. She was, and always will be, their biggest cheerleader. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her immeasurable joy, and the love and memories they shared will forever remain in their hearts.
Sharon is survived by her children, Rod Mayberry, Shelle (Cody) Scott, and Sherre (Matt) Heider; her grandchildren, Morgan (Tim) Moreno, Tripp Scott and his girlfriend, Maddie Young, Madison Heider, Tucker Scott, and Maci Scott; her great-grandchildren, Masen and Leighton Moreno; her nephews, Kirk (Melanie) Pittman and Klay (Heather) Pittman; her great-nieces, Kiran and Elora Pittman; and many cousins and countless friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Harlan Strauser; her sister, Beverly Medlock; and her mother, Betty Strauser.
In accordance with Sharon’s wishes, her three children honored her request for a private family viewing. She also specifically requested, in her own handwritten words, “instead of flowers give to a hungry animal.” In keeping with her lifelong love for animals, the family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to any local animal rescue or animal welfare organization.
Sharon will be remembered for her hilarious personality, generous heart, deep faith, and unwavering love for her family and animals. She touched countless lives and leaves behind a legacy of laughter, kindness, and love. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, but her spirit and memories will live on forever.
