Mrs. Sheila May Morgan (Schenk), age 96, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2026, in Lubbock, Texas. Born on June 27, 1929, in Zanesville, Ohio, Sheila lived a long and vibrant life marked by creativity, resilience, and a deep love for her family and the world around her.
Sheila’s early years in Ohio laid the foundation for a lifelong pursuit of knowledge and artistic expression. A graduate of Portsmouth High School, she attended Ohio University and the University of Arkansas where she would meet her future husband, Norman Morgan, Sr. They were married on August 10, 1952 before leaving for California where he served in the military base at Camp Roberts near Paso Robles and she managed the secretarial duties of the Colonel.
Her passion for design led her to finish her BFA degree and then pursue a MFA degree in Interior Design, both from Texas Tech University—an endeavor that reflected both her creative spirit and determination.
Throughout her career, Sheila brought beauty and functionality into countless homes through her work in interior design. She began by working alongside her mother-in-law, Martha Morgan Kent, in her design studio. Later, she co-owned a kitchen design studio, The Kitchen Mart, with her husband, Norman, combining their talents to create spaces that were both elegant and practical. Sheila also shared her expertise with aspiring designers as a teaching assistant at Texas Tech University under architect professor, Walter L. Calvert, and later as an instructor of interior design at South Plains College in Lubbock.
Sheila was deeply devoted to her family. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Cindy Hill, son, Norman Morgan Jr., his wife, Salah Morgan, and their son, Trey, and son Greg Morgan and his wife, Kristin Robinson, along with Greg’s daughters: Clare, Frances, Hattie, and Piper Morgan. Her three nieces: Linda Starrett and her husband Tim, Vicki Foltz, and Cathy Ogden, her husband Ray, and countless cousins. Her beloved husband, Norman Morgan Sr., preceded her in death.
A woman of boundless energy and imagination, Sheila embraced life with enthusiasm. She had an insatiable wanderlust that took her around the world, across the country, and beyond—whether camping under the stars or dreaming about the Mississippi River or boating on the Texas Coast. She found joy near any body of water—the ocean’s vastness or the river’s steady flow always called to her spirit.
Her hobbies reflected her multifaceted personality: she designed jewelry with flair, preserved memories through scrapbooking and journaling, and delighted in discovering antiques that told stories of times past. Each pursuit was infused with the same creativity that defined both her personal life and professional career.
Sheila was also a woman of faith who found community as a member of First United Methodist Church in Lubbock. Her strong will was matched by a generous heart—a dreamer who never stopped exploring new ideas or places but always returned to what mattered most: time spent with those she loved.
An intimate family graveside service celebrating Sheila’s life will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home in Lubbock.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Hospice of Lubbock or Lubbock Meals on Wheels.
May Sheila Morgan’s memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.
