Susan Lynn Malloy

In loving memory of Susan Lynn Shelley Hunt Malloy, 76, who passed away peacefully on May 12, 2026, after a courageous journey with Alzheimer’s. Born on February 17, 1950, in Peoria, Illinois, Susan’s life was a testament to compassion, resilience, and unwavering faith.

Susan was the cherished daughter of the late Donald and Hazel Shelley, and she carried forward their legacy of love and kindness. Susan was a woman whose love, faith, and kindness touched the hearts of all who knew her. She entered the life of her family with the light of Christ and a heart full of unconditional love, forever changing the lives around her.

She is now reunited with her husband, Michael Malloy, beloved parents, grandparents, her previous husband, Roger Hunt; four brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law and her dear niece, Lori in eternal peace.

She leaves behind a devoted family who adored her, including her loving daughter, Tammy (Jim Preidis); her three cherished grandsons, Timothy (with his wife, Calleigh), Benjamin, and Jonathon Preidis; and her nine treasured great-grandchildren, Matthew, Michaela, Liam, Lexi, Parker, Paxleigh, Amilia, Dennis and Scartlet-Rose. Susan is also survived by her sister, Jan Borror; her sister-in-law, Lowanda Johnston; four nieces; one nephew; and a multitude of great and great-great-nieces and nephews; as well as one brother-in-law, Bob Malloy. Her Arizona family—Phil, Debi, Judy, Dorthy, Margie, and their children—held a special place in her heart.

Susan's educational path was marked by dedication and excellence. She began a career in the medical field in the early 1970s with two surgeons Whittiker and Hart from Peoria, Illinois. Susan then moved on to become a lab technician at the historical Eureka Hospital in Eureka, Illinois; now known as Carle Eureka Hospital. In 1982, Susan decided nursing was her true desire. She earned her RN from Illinois Central College and later completed her BSN at an esteemed university in Arizona. Her career began in a nursing home, where she nurtured those in their twilight years with warmth and care. Upon moving to Arizona, Susan found her true calling as a critical care and hospice nurse, a role in which she touched countless lives with her empathy and gentle spirit.

Susan possessed a boundless love for the arts and found joy in painting and drawing. She delighted in playing games with friends, and her beautiful voice often filled the room with song. Her creativity and zest for life were matched only by her kindness and warmth. Known affectionately as Mama Sue, she embodied the light of Christ and shared her heart full of unconditional love with all she met.

Susan met Roger Hunt at a church picnic in 1975, shortly after he had accepted the Lord. That same day, Roger and his daughter, Tammy were baptized together in the lake by Pastor Don Leach, making the beginning of a new chapter built on faith and devotion.

On Christmas Eve of 1975, Roger asked Susan to become his wife and a mother to his young daughter. Six and a half months later, they were married on July 10, 1976, at a patriotic wedding, also celebrating the Bicentennial year of our country. This union began a beautiful journey as a family.

Through Susan’s love, a little girl gained not only a mother, but an entire family filled with warmth, celebration, and cherished traditions. Holidays like Christmas, Thanksgiving, Birthdays, Mother’s and Father’s Days as well as Memorial Days were shared together as one large and loving family, creating memories that will be treasured forever.

In April 1994, Susan married the love of her life, Michael Malloy, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, devotion and faith. Together they had many cherished memories until his passing on April 18, 2026. Jointly they enjoyed being parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. Susan and Michael were children at heart. They brought joy and laughter into their home, often chasing each other around the house with water guns. They pursued their passions and shared their creativity with others.

A devoted member of her community, Susan attended Gold Canyon Methodist Church in Arizona, where she served as the parish nurse. After relocating to Lubbock, Texas, in 2021, she attended Maranatha Tabernacle. Her faith was a guiding light in her life and a source of comfort to many.

A service to honor and celebrate Susan and Michael’s life together will be held on June 11, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Lake Ridge Chapel, located at 6025 82nd St., Lubbock, TX 79424. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Wreaths Across America, an organization close to Susan and Michael’s heart, at wreathsacrossamerica.org/tx1429p.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all who cared for Mama Sue during her hospice care, especially her nurse, Brooke, whose kindness and love will forever be remembered.

Susan Lynn Shelley Hunt Malloy was a beacon of love and grace, and her legacy will continue to inspire all who knew her. She was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed. Let's celebrate with her as she dances with the angels and worships her Lord.
