Susan G. West

Funeral services for Susan G. West, 65, of Lubbock will be at 4:00p.m. on Friday January 10 in Resthaven’s Abbey Chapel with Dr. Andy Hurst officiating. Mrs. West passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2014.

Susan Gay Shelton was born on October 28, 2014 in Amarillo to Robert G. and Ernestine (Wanser) Shelton. During her high school years, Susan was on the debate team. She graduated from Monterey High School in 1967. She married the love of her life, Donald R. West on November 11, 1967 in the First Presbyterian Church in Lubbock.

Susan earned a Surgical Technician degree and worked for Community Health Center of Lubbock where she retired in 1990. She later went back to school to attend South Plains College. In 1988 she was awarded a Secretarial Award of Achievement and then continued with her studies and earned an Associates of Applied Science degree from South Plains College. She graduated in 1993 with a perfect 4.0 GPA and was listed on the Deans Honor List.

Susan was a longtime faithful member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. At St. Luke’s, she was a member of the Methodist Women’s Group. Susan had many hobbies including sewing, quilting, crafts, and volunteering at St. Luke’s to work where ever she was needed. Susan loved having company over and was a very gracious host. Her true passion was doting on her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who lived for her family. Susan had many names and loved hearing her family refer to her as “Mom”, “MeMa” and “Aunt SuSu”.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved grandson, Caleb West in 2006.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 46 years, Donald West; sons, Brian West (Deanna), Mark West (Stefani), and Matt West (Amanda); grandchildren, Kirsten, Abby, Colton, Justice, Brandi, Terry, Alecia, and Kayla; great-grandsons, Daxton and Jaydon; brother, Bob
