

Thelma was born January 10, 1922 to George and Willie Larison in Montague County, Texas. The family invites you to share in a celebration of her life Saturday, August 17, 2013 at 1:00 pm in the Abbey Chapel, Resthaven Funeral Home. A reception time will follow the service. Viewing and family visitation will be Friday evening, 6-8 pm.
Thelma grew up in Montague County, Texas and married R.V. Poindexter, on October 11, 1941. After R.V. returned from serving in the Army they lived in several West Texas towns, eventually ending up in Lubbock in 1952. Thelma was a member of the Broadway Church of Christ and an active member of the Lubbock Chapter of the American Ex-Prisoner of War Association.
Thelma was very loved, and is survived by her daughter; Patricia Armitstead and son-in-law, John, of Wolfforth, Texas and sons; Ronald Poindexter of Lubbock, Texas and Jimmy Poindexter and daughter-in-law, Becky, of Spring, Texas. “Grandma” was also cherished by her grandchildren; Angela and David Taylor, Angela Hoffman, Jason and Lynn Morris, Byron and Mysi Poindexter, Joshua and Amanda Poindexter, Kaela and Bill McDougall, Lara and Clark Packer, along with 12 great-grandchildren. Thelma’s extended family includes many other family members and friends who were a large part of her life. Thelma was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, R.V., and also by her grand-daughter, Tambre Taylor.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the American Ex-Prisoners of War Association of Arlington, TX or Interim Hospice of Lubbock.
