Toshi was born in Japan on March 2, 1932 where she grew up with five siblings: three brothers and two sisters.
She spent her early years in Japan before coming to the United States where she met her husband, John Fjeld, who preceded her in death in 2009.
John and Toshi were married for 48 years before his death; they enjoyed traveling and the outdoors, and they spent their summers together in Colorado.
Toshi lived a quiet yet prolific life and was a fixture of her neighborhood, where she knew and helped care for every one of her neighbors, young and old.
Toshi was famous for her daily strolls around her neighborhood, checking in on everyone–she never met a stranger. Her door was always open, and she made it a point to visit with and get to know everyone she encountered.
She loved the outdoors and spent as much time as she could in her yard, gardening or feeding the animals.
She was active up until her last days at 94 years old, always finding something or someone to take care of. Because of Toshi’s gregarious and selfless nature, she had countless friends that became family throughout her life. She embodied vitality, true kindness, and friendship.
