Velma May Smith, 99, passed away October 19,2013 in Lubbock. She was born March 15, 1914 in Huckabay, Erath County, Texas to William and Lannie Holt. She married L.E. May on December 17, 1935 in Crosby County, Texas. After L.E.s passing, she married Guy Smith on December 30, 1983 in Andrews, Texas. Velma was a long time member of Asbury United Methodist Church and Order of the Eastern Star. She has lived at Wedgewood South Assisted Living in Lubbock for the last 17 months.
Survivors include her son, Jimmy May and his wife Reba of Lubbock; sisters, Gladys Coffman and Naomi Fleming both of Lubbock; 5 grandchildren, Stacey May and Ross May both of Lubbock, Nicolette May and Eugene May of the United Kingdom, and Lanette Fallwell of Canyon, Texas; 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, L.E. May, son Bobby May, grandson Miles May and Guy Smith.
Visitation will be Tuesday, October 22, 2013 in Resthaven Funeral Home from 6 top 8 pm. Funeral services will be Wednesday October 23 in Resthaven's Abbey Chapel at 10 am with burial to follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.
